Chipper _______: Part I

If you know my last name, insert that into the blank above, and the subject will be infinitely funnier. Trust me; comedy gold!

Fortunately for all of you, I had an exceptionally good weekend and Monday, so no doom-and-gloom this time!
Let’s get started…

Two Fridays ago (the 14th), I won a ticket to the orchestra concert entitled Sleeping with Schubert that took place last Friday. Consequently, I had to go and I did. Despite the urging of many of my Lehigh friends, never before had I been to an orchestra concert and I didn’t know what to expect. As it turned out, I really enjoyed it; I emerged out of it extremely relaxed and peaceful, suggesting that I’ll be going to several more in the future.

However, my weekly D&D game (of which Rachel is a part, an important detail for later) was also that night, so I only stayed at the concert until intermission. Since that started a few minutes before my D&D game began, I arrived at my game virtually on time. While I would have liked to have stayed at the whole concert, D&D is always a great time, and last week’s game was no exception… except for one minor detail: My character is no longer in possession of his soul; he lost it by drawing one card out of the Deck of Many Things. The party may have a solution, but it would involve being a thrall to one of the other party members (Rachel’s bear-ape character, actually; a strange image); theoretically, we’re all working together so I think I can live with that. Plus, it’s almost the end of the semester, so it won’t matter much longer anyway.

After the game, we were all starving, so we piled into cars and drove to the City View Diner, one of the few 24-hour eating establishments in the area. I was particularly hungry, so I ordered a ham-and-cheese omelet and large milk. Mmm mmm good.

Around 2 am, we got back to Lehigh, whereupon Rachel starts to assault me with her pokes (she randomly likes to do that a lot). I simply try to parry her strikes, dodging when I can. After one such attempt, she yelps in pain. I ask what’s wrong, and she shows me one of her nails: it’s chipped and bleeding underneath it. I guess my heavy coat (it was cold that night) caught on it and partially destroyed it. I apologize profusely and offer to get her a Band-aid; she points out that a Band-aid won’t help a wound covered by what remains of her nail. Running out of options (or at least I felt like I was), I move to put pressure on the nail until she recoils in horror. “Do you know how much that would hurt?!?” she exclaims. Oh yeah… whoops! Clearly, I was panicking and not in my right state of mind. Another apology is offered, which she quickly dismisses as unnecessary, and we part ways for the night. Amusing in retrospect, but I felt terrible at the time. Live and learn, I suppose.

I retire for the evening at 3 in the morning and refuse to set an alarm, subsequently waking up at noon on Saturday. I drag myself up to the University Center (commonly known as the UC by Lehigh-ers) to grab a couple of bagels and some milk. The rest of the day consisted of doing a small amount of work and a lot of my daily routine (detailed in large part here), basically stalling until the evening, when I went to an event called Broadway at Lehigh. There, a few of my improv group friends (yes, I’m in an improv group, in case you didn’t know) performed several Broadway hits, including ones from Avenue Q. Only a handful of songs were sung, so it didn’t last an hour. I hung out for a while, bummed a ride back to my dorm from one of my future roommates, and watched some episodes of Scrubs (or something, I don’t even remember what I did exactly) until I got too tired to stay up any longer.

Wow, this post mushroomed quickly. I’ll stop here and continue this tomorrow, giving you guys a chance to digest the first part before I go any further. Depending on when I resume writing, I may include Tuesday’s events too.
