Whew, moving's a lot of work, both physically and emotionally. But now, about a week after the move, I'm very much settled in Arlington, VA. Technically, I'm still waiting on some stuff that my parents are delivering this coming weekend, but all the important stuff's here. I've gone grocery shopping, I've done some of my own cooking (nothing fancier than pasta so far, but it's a start), I've scoped the area out a bit, I've tried the commute to work (yep, even woke up early to get an idea of what it'd be like driving in rush hour traffic), and I've officially become a Virginia resident by obtaining a driver's license and all that accoutrement (sorry if that sounds pretentious, I just like the word). My health isn't 100%, but it isn't terrible either (ibuprofen helps out on the bad days). I'm definitely still getting used to the notion of living on my own for the first time in my life, but now that I've proved to myself that I can make my own meals (basic though they may be), I have the confidence I need to do it (is it sad that cooking for myself was one of my biggest worries?).
Anyway, you probably weren't interested in all those details, right? What you probably want are these: pictures!
The place has changed a little bit, since those pictures were all taken on the day of the move (Saturday) before everything was unpacked, but it should give you a basic idea of how I'm living. I like it a lot, except for my basic cable package, so I watch almost no TV; I just catch "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" online after they air. Anyway, one more weekend, and then my first day of work's on Monday. I'm looking forward to it, although naturally, I'm nervous too. If my health could return to normal by then, I'd be more confident, but I can't shake the worry that I'm going to feel terrible that day. But barring that, it should be fine. I start at 9 am, which is better than the 8 am start time I had back home, so that's a plus. Until then, back to goofing off, hooray! :-P
