Greetings Redux

Welcome to my new home. Like it? Take a look around and let me know what you think of the place. It's brand new, so there will certainly be some changes as I learn the ins-and-outs of blogging. I've been working on it for the past several weeks, transferring all of my old posts out of my subprofile and into this. I think I'm going to like it here.

Why'd I switch over? For a lot of practical reasons.
1) No space limitations. This was easily the biggest consideration. Just look through the past few rants, and you'll see that I consistently truncated posts when I would reach the arbitrary 5000 character limit. No limits in blogs, which means more freedom for me.
2) Getting with the times. Subprofiles are no longer in wide use, while blogs are everywhere. I figured that I should go ahead and transition over before it became any more painful to do so.
3) More accessible. The subprofile only worked with certain IM clients. For example, sometimes, viewing my profile in Trillian would cause errors. I wanted to open myself up to as many of my friends as possible, and a blog seemed like the best and easiest way to do that.
4) Desire for change. I wasn't doing anything with my subprofile. If I was going to motivate myself to write anymore, I realized that I needed to ditch the subprofile.

Now, with the new medium, there will also be some changes to the format. The "Kinda Weekly/Monthly" moniker is gone and will not be coming back. I will try to update regularly, but I'm not going to lie to myself or to you guys by pretending that I don't have other, bigger priorities in my life. I hope I will update more frequently than I did in 2005 (5 posts in all!), but have to wait and see if this blog changes my writing habits.

Also, I'm going to switch the focus of my content off of my personal life, although I'll be sure to mention anything important in here. Instead, I want to use this blog as a way to practice and improve my writing skills, as I intend on writing more at school for various publications and I need to do more writing if the quality of my articles is going to improve. Besides, I find that most of my personal posts end up being the whiny, narcissistic diatribes that permeate the blogosphere, and I don't want to be one of THOSE bloggers. I was even tempted to remove those rants from this blog, but as much as I may want to deny it, I did write those things, and there's no point in trying to hide it or pretend that they don't exist. I will just have to accept the good with the bad; they can't all be my best.

While I didn’t remove any of my old posts, I did remove the parts about my mood and what music I’m listening to because, as it says above, I’m attempting to make this blog less about me and more about topics that are important to me. The mood/music fields were mandatory with the subprofile; otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered with them in the first place.

One last note and then I'll end this windy re-introduction: My spring break is around the corner, meaning Saturday, March 4th through Friday, March 10th. I plan on returning to Lehigh on the 11th, but I may be returning even sooner because there's a slight chance that I'll be attending a taping of an episode of The Daily Show or The Colbert Report with some of my Lehigh friends. I won't hold my breath, but it could happen. Regardless, I hope to see many of you in about a week! Leave me a comment so that I know that you're reading, and if you have a blog of your own, I'd appreciate any suggestions or tips that you may have.

Yay, I can comment! I'm happy to see you've moved to the blog world as well. It's a lot easier for me to check, as your subprofile required a lot of work for me to see with my aim client. Happy posting, and hope you fit well here! :)
