Normally, I find "Top 10" lists really lame and while this list may be no exception, it naturally worked out to be ten, so why fight it?
1) There is a whole array of chocolates in the rest stop.
2) The sun does not beat down as hard in the afternoon because there are trees and mountains in the way. Or perhaps that's just the clouds.
3) As you're driving along, you can feel the pressure changes in your ears.
4) There are two accepted currencies: Euros and Swiss Francs.
5) You go through a LOT of tunnels on the highway (True story - As I was writing the first of these observations during the ride down to Switzerland, within the few minutes that it took to get to this point, we had already passed through two tunnels. And we weren't even going under rivers.)
6) When you enter from the northwest, all the signs are in German. Once you've driven about two hours southwest, they change to French.
7) The clouds suddenly seem much closer than they did in France.
8) On the way to Geneva, at some point, you'll look out the window and see a humongous lake (Lake Neuchâtel). Then you enter another tunnel, and you go back to playing solitaire on your PDA. Ok, maybe that last part only applies to me.
9) The Alps are awe-inspiring, as advertised (you were right, Kat).
10) If you've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell, go to Switzerland. Seriously, at night, it's a freakin' chorus of cowbells.
I have much, much more to say and show on Switzerland, but here's the conundrum: I'm going back to Strasbourg today, and I have two weeks of class left, during which time I have at least 6 different assignments to start/complete and turn in. I'm going to do some research for one of those assignments now, and if I have time, I'll make another post today. Otherwise, you may not hear from me until some of these assignments are out of the way. The short version is that Switzerland is easily the most beautiful country I've seen yet, Geneva is a nice city, and my friend Luke and his family are very gracious hosts.
