A New Blog Post, Brought to You By Procrastination

Isn't it ironic that, when I'm busiest, I'm more likely to have material for my blog, but I don't have time to blog about it because I'm busy? I didn't say it was particularly good irony, but that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Moving on...

Spring Break was all right but not much of a break. I did get to socialize, as my break coincided with several others', but I was stressed out most of the time because I was pretty far behind in my coursework in a few classes. I spent part of break catching up, but not enough of it, and now, I'm at least as far behind as I was then, if not more so. ARGH!

I was even inspired to, for the first time in several years, write some poetry. The last time I did that, it was probably for a card for my mom, or something like that. It still needs a lot of work, and possibly should just be tossed in a fire and forgotten, but I figure it means something. Most likely that I'm one step closer to finally having an all-out mental breakdown. So there's that to look forward to. :-P Oh, and no, I'm not sharing the poetry. At least not yet.

Anyway, one of the highlights from break was an epic discussion (5+ hours) that brought some measure of closure to something I did the summer of my senior year. Those of you who were with me on New Year's inadvertently extracted the details, so while it's technically not a secret anymore, I'm still not proud of it. For that reason, I won't say any more, but I'm willing to help any one who's confused right now if you ask me about it. I only bring it up because it was rather important. Other than that, I hung out with Coffee and Half-and-Half (as loathe as I am to accept that she is part of our fledgling rap group), saw 300 with them on opening night (I think I'm the only person of my generation who wasn't completely enamored with it, although it was good), went to a gaming store with Laura, and palled around with my good buddy Chris for what will likely be one of the last times for quite a while.

As you may recall, I'm the president of Lehigh's Gaming Club, and last weekend was not only St. Patrick's Day weekend but also the Gaming Club's annual gaming convention/fundraiser, EPiC (Eastern Pennsylvania Convention). Getting that over with was a huge relief, especially with all the problems we had. Its coincidence with St. Patrick's Day was due to an oversight on my part, but that ended up being a minor issue. Not only did a freak snowstorm (in March!) happen on Thursday and Friday; on Saturday, there was mix up that kept us locked out of the convention's building until 10 am (we were supposed to start at 8). I think the stress from that shed a year or two off my life. Fortunately, once the games got running, they did so with nary a problem, and the convention was a moderate success financially. I wish attendance had been better, but even with more advertising and planning, the major problems were unforeseeable, so I think it turned out all right, given the circumstances. Oh, and because it was St. Patrick's Day weekend, I got to see some of my alumni friends, such as my previous roommate, James, so that was cool.

Besides that, the biggest event for me since break was last (Friday) night. I went to Ardmore, PA, a town just outside of Philly, to see these guys:
Jonathan Coulton (March 23 2007)

Recognize any of the above? If so, congrats, because few of my friends here knew who they were, and those who did couldn't go for one reason or another. So I went by myself. I generally don't like going to performances of any sort by myself; I end up thinking too much and not enjoying the show. In this case, it was worth it, and the crowd was really into it and friendly, so I talked to some of my neighbors and had a great time. Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm were extremely approachable, thanks in part to the small size of the venue but mostly because they are awesome and some of the nicest and funniest people/pseudo-celebrities (at least on teh Interwebs :-P) you'll ever meet. If you ever hear that these guys are coming to your area and you enjoy musicians who don't take themselves too seriously and talk about important topics like robots, zombies, and whether Bigfoot or Abraham Lincoln would win in a fight, go see them. They worked very well together and show a real passion for their work and life that is extraordinarily rare.

All that's left to mention is why I may be in a foul mood and barely coherent this week: At the end of the week, I have two exams and a major project due. That means serious studying/work for three out of the four classes in which I'm enrolled this semester. If my exam in my fourth class weren't next week but rather this week, it would be the perfect storm. If that weren't bad enough, the fourth class is the one in which I'm furthest behind, and because of my workload this week, I probably won't have time to catch up until next weekend. And as I think I've mentioned before, this was supposed to be my "easy" semester! I do like these classes, but did they all have to be so much work simultaneously? I guess that if my sanity remains intact after this week, I'll be stronger for it. I just have to remember my mantra: "At least I'm not a starving child in Africa... At least I'm not a starving child in Africa..." :-P I hope your lives are going better than mine is, but I doubt that would be saying much right now.
