I was totally there to witness its sea-salty demise.
If you still have the old phone with you, there may be a chance to resurrect it. I've read that water itself doesn't cause permanent damage to electronics, it's actually the minerals (and in your case salt) in the water. If you soak the phone in distilled water for 24 hours and then let it air dry, it should clean it out and work again so you can extract your important data from it.
This quest is worth 500 XP.
